Global Robotics

Silicon Valley Robotics is a founding member of IARA, the International Alliance of Robotics Associations, formally launched in 2020 and headquartered in Hangzhou, China in Xiaoshan Robot Town. The other founding members are China, Israel, Spain, Finland, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Australia.

As Secretary-General of IARA, my focus is on supporting the acceleration of innovation through national or regional robotics clusters, networks, standards, and roadmaps.

Silicon Valley Robotics is also a founding member of GRC, the Global Robotics Cluster organization, formally launched in 2017 and headquartered in Daegu, South Korea. The other founding members of the GRC are Malaysia, Singapore, Mass Robotics, France and South Korea. We look forward to growing global robotics cooperation.

I personally participated in the working groups for the IEEE Global Initiative for Ethically Aligned Design of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems which produced the ongoing guidebook Ethically Aligned Design: Prioritizing Human Wellbeing with Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. Created by more than 700 global experts focused on the pragmatic instantiation of human-centric, values-driven design, the first edition of EAD contains more than 280 pages designed for a wide range of audiences and stakeholders. Several standards have since been developed and the 2nd edition of the guidebook is open for public consultation.

I am an active member of OCEANIS, the Open Community for Ethics in Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, particularly involved in advancing research into ethical structures for socio-technical systems and continued global growth and coordination.

In other forms of global robotics coordination, I am a core team member for Robohub.org, the global robotics research news site and podcast, I coordinated the Industry Committee of ICRA 2018 and HRI 2020, and presented a workshop at ICSR 2020. I also founded the Women in Robotics organization, a global community with more than 2000 members across 16 countries at last count. I am the Ally Engagement CoChair of the new Black in Robotics organization.
