The Robot Ambassador will eventually be a much larger, differently shaped multi armed and multi headed creation. It is deliberately androgynous and a bit creepy. The idea is to make people think about heads, sensors, brains and communication and some of the translation errors between human and robot.
The current ambassador is a Bioloid construct. As I only had 2 days to build the entire exhibit, I stuck with a simple reactive creature template from Robotis. I didn’t change the basic behaviour at all as the build was fiddly. The screws shake loose a lot and I didn’t want to use glue when I’m it’s a work in progress.
The Ambassador sat and waited while it panned a head sensor to and fro and then walked towards detected objects. I also added a mask/head and a small speaker with a short speech.
